BFA Entrance Procedures
Acceptance into the Undergraduate Dance Program (BFA ) requires application to both OSU Undergraduate Admissions and the Department of Dance.
OSU Undergraduate Admissions
First, please check the Ohio State University Undergraduate Admissions webpage to access procedures and deadlines.
We encourage you to apply to OSU by December 1, 2011, the priority deadline for numerous university merit scholarships.
The University also offers
Honors & Scholars
Programs. Application materials for Ohio State Scholars Program and the University Honors Program can be found at hsapp.osu.edu after October 1, 2011.
Priority deadline is December 15, 2011. Final deadline is February 15, 2012.
In addition to the general application, please complete the Department of Dance application, which includes a dance resume, a Department of Dance essay, your OSU Undergraduate Admissions essay, and dance audition registration. Click "sign-up" to register and follow the instructions from there. If you have any questions, please contact the Undergraduate Program Coordinator at 614-292-7977.
Department of Dance Admissions
Acceptance into the BFA Program is determined through careful consideration of your:
- dance training, experience, and goals
- activities and interests outside of dance
- academic record and achievement
- essays for OSU Admissions and Department of Dance
- interview: a brief individual meeting with faculty member
- required movement audition
Auditions for the undergraduate dance major program (BFA ) take place October 21 & 22, 2011 and February 3 & 4, 2012. This two-day experience, with an Open Class Day and an Audition Day, includes touring the department and the campus, observing and taking classes, meeting faculty and current dance majors, attending information sessions, and a required audition. Family members are encouraged to attend.
Financial Aid
For information on university financial aid please visit the Office of Student Financial Aid at sfa.osu.edu.
Scholarships
The Department of Dance has limited scholarship funding. We strongly encourage applicants to apply for university scholarships at meritawards.osu.edu and for funding through the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at oma.osu.edu.
Most Department of Dance scholarships are reserved for current students who have demonstrated extraordinary accomplishment in physical practice, creative activity and/or theoretical inquiry. The amount of these awards is generally from $500-$3000 and must be applied for annually.
Departmental scholarships for incoming freshmen are reserved for under-represented populations, in amounts ranging from $1000-$3000 for freshmen year only. We generally give 2-4 awards.
Transfer Students
Transfer students are admitted to the program throughout the year, as opportunities arise. Application for Autumn admittance is June 1, 2012. However, they must follow all of the above procedures, including attendance at one of the two departmental auditions
