Bebe Miller (Arts & Humanities Distinguished Professor) received her MA in Dance from The Ohio State University in 1975. Her interest in finding a physical language for the human condition is a connecting thread throughout her work, and, in order to further a process of group inquiry, she formed Bebe Miller Company in 1985, performing worldwide. Her most recent work, Necessary Beauty (2008) is a multi-media work made in collaboration with ACCAD, the Wexner Center for the Arts, and the Department of Dance; she is currently developing History, a new performance work premiering in 2012, and an artist-driven archive for dance artists called Dance Fort. Bebe has created works for Boston Ballet, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and Philadanco. A four-time Bessie winner, she has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, Ohio Arts Council, New York Foundation for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. She currently serves as a board member for Danspace Project and Bearnstow, and is a member of the International Artists Advisory Board of the Wexner Center for the Arts. She has collaborated with the Department of Dance in producing several digital documentation works, including a DVD-ROM of Going To The Wall, a CD-ROM of Prey that accompanies the Labanotation score, and DanceCODES, a software template for choreographic documentation. Bebe teaches Contemporary Technique, Improvisation, Repertory, Creative Practice and Choreography courses.
